When we first bought Sandcastle Cottage back in 1992, my husband and my father both put their names down to join The Crail Golfing Society, and over the years both enjoyed many games on the superb links courses there. When they first joined the Society, there was only one course at the club, but in 1998 a further course – the challenging Craighead Course was added to the original Balcomie Links.

I’m not a golfer myself, but I can recall the discussions when the Craighead Course first opened. It was challenging and many balls were lost.
But in the intervening 12 years, the course has matured and developed, and both courses are a delight to play – truly a place to enjoy Scottish links golf at its finest.
Recently, the Crail Golfing Society has completed the redevelopment of the Clubhouse which provides a welcoming place for members and guests to relax and relive their game over a drink or a meal.
So, if you’re coming to Sandcastle Cottage for a holiday or short-break, don’t forget to bring your golf clubs!
And if this isn’t enough of a recommendation, check out these posts from fans of the courses at Crail:
- “Crail Balcomie is quite extraordinary”
- “Balcomie Links which is one of my favorite courses in Scotland“
- “Crail and Lundin Links are a couple of outstanding gems“
