Planning a holiday to the East Neuk of Fife

The beginning of the year is a time for holiday planning for most families hoping to take a holiday during the year.  At Sandcastle Cottage, we’ve been busy thinking of ideas to entice you to include the East Neuk of Fife as one of your holiday choices for the year.

We can offer short breaks all year round (except peak season in July and August, where we offer weekly lets). We’ve been collecting links on our Pinterest boards to give you a quick snapshot of things to do, places to visit and places to eat and drink on your holiday in the East Neuk, so please take a look there too.

Winter Short Breaks – December, January and February

We welcome guests to Sandcastle Cottage to bring in the New Year, and have already taken bookings for one February break.  If you need school holiday dates, they’re different in different parts of the country, and we’re offering Friday – Monday or Monday – Friday breaks at £350 at Sandcastle Cottage.  While you’re here you can walk the coastal path, visit parks, spend a day in St Andrews, and during February it’s snowdrops time at Cambo House, and the Snowdrops Festival takes place from late January through February.  We’ve collected ideas for restaurants to visit if you want to make a luxury break of it, or ideas for self-catering to help you plan your trip.  No need to bring food with you to Fife!

Spring Short Breaks – March, April and May

In springtime, Kellie Castle opens again – you’ll find details about opening times here. We love the walled garden and grounds (open all year round).  Early in March StAnza, the International Poetry Festival is held in St Andrews, and in May there are Open Studios open in North Fife to add to the array of galleries and artists’ workshops open around the East Neuk. Long days mean it’s an ideal time for a golfing break too.

Summer Short Breaks – June

Time for the Crail Food Festival, and an opportunity for those who don’t need school holidays to take a summer break.  Find out some ideas of things to do for the Under-5s if you’re looking for inspiration.  Also popular with families coming for graduation ceremonies at the University of St Andrews.

Summer holidays – July and August

We offer weekly breaks in July and August, starting on a Friday (mostly), but a weekly minimum also allows you to book a 10 night break Fri – Fri – Mon or an 11-night break Mon-Mon-Fri. A great time for family holidays.  Take a look at ideas for Beaches in Fife: Elie and Kingsbarns are favourites.  It’s the time for the East Neuk Festival (early July), Crail Festival (last 2 weeks in July) and the Pittenweem Arts Festival (around 2nd week of August).

Autumn Short Breaks – September, October and November

Back to our short break offering as summer fades and autumn arrives.  A great time for enjoying walks by the shore on the longest coastal footpath in Scotland, and treating yourself to a break if you don’t need school holiday dates.  A time for inspirational music of all genres at St Andrews Voices and feasting and festivities as St Andrews Food and Drink Festival has events on throughout the month of November, culminating in St Andrew’s Day celebrations.

Christmas and New Year in Crail

A great idea if you’ve relatives in Crail, but they don’t have enough room to accommodate your family – booking into a self-catering cottage and being able to spend time together over Christmas or New Year.  Or maybe you just want to get away from it all and do something different at Christmas.  We offer 5-night minimum lets around the Festive Season at Sandcastle Cottage.
