Our guests have been enjoying a day-out to Craigtoun Park on the outskirts of St Andrews for many years whilst staying at Sandcastle Cottage. In recent years Craigtoun Park has seen a revival, sparked by local volunteers who have rallied round and arranged rotas, fundraising and more to ensure the park continues to operate for the enjoyment of all.
If you’re thinking about a day-out to Craigtoun Park while staying at Sandcastle Cottage in Crail, then you should check the Facebook page Friends of Craigtoun Park, where the latest updates about what’s on and any changes to normal schedules will be posted.
Here are some ideas of what you’ll find to do when you get there.
Craigtoun Park Amenities
Bring bats and balls, a picnic or a barbecue and enjoy a day in the beautiful grounds of Craigtoun Country Park.
A ride around the park on “Puffing Billy”.
Round the lake on a pedalo or by rowing boat – including the challenge of getting under the archways of the bridge over to the Dutch Village.
Worth the wait in the queue – a trip round the park on the Craigtoun Park miniature railway. All aboard!
There’s an adventure play area, zip wire, trampolines, crazy golf, pedal cars and putting as well as beautiful gardens to enjoy. If you haven’t taken a picnic, there is a cafe with hot and cold snacks and drinks as well as a wide selection of ice creams to choose from. Entrance to the park is free, and there is a small charge to go on some of the rides. There is ample car parking which is also free.
Please support the Friends of Craigtoun by making a donation and buying tickets while you are there, and remember it’s all staffed by enthusiastic and willing volunteers.
