Visit Crail – Kingsbarns Distillery
Kingsbarns is our local whisky distillery offering tours and tastings throughout the year. It is also the home of Darnley’s Gin. The distillery is only a short drive or bus ride from Crail. In the summer months tours get booked up very quickly so best to plan ahead to avoid disappointment. For more details or to book a tour click this link
Visit the Isle of May
The Isle of May is a national nature reserve and managed by Nature Scot. The island is home to a large seabird population which includes puffins as well as a large grey seal colony. Anstruther Pleasure Cruises run daily boat trips or RHIB to the island. The trip is truly a memorable experience and highly recommended.

Visit Crail – Walk the Fife Coastal Path
The East Neuk section of the Fife Coastal Path is the most popular part of this 117 mile long distance footpath around the coast of Fife. The route from Leven to Crail takes you through all the picturesque East Neuk villages and there historic harbours. The Stagecoach 95 bus serves the route so you are never to far away from a bus stop.
Visit Crail – Play Golf on Crail’s two fantastic links courses
Crail Golfing Society has two of the finest championship golf courses in Scotland. The Balcomie Course was designed by Old Tom Morris. Golfers can enjoy modern clubhouse facilities as well as some great views. For more details and how to book a round of golf click this link.
Only a short drive from Crail you will find Kingsbarns Golf Links one of the venues for the annual Alfred Dunhill Links Champoinship.
The East Neuk also has courses at Anstruther (9 hole course), Elie, Charlton and Lundin Links.
Crail is only a 25 minute drive from all the courses in St Andrews
Visit Crail – Cambo Garden
If you are looking for something less energetic and relaxiing then why not visit Cambo Garden. Cambo is only 3 miles from Crail. The walled garden and greenhouses are open all year round. There is also an attractive woodland walk which takes you down to the beach at Kingsbarns.
The cafe uses vegetables from the garden in their menus and is well worth a visit for lunch.
Visit Crail – Shop in the local shops
The local shops in Crail High Street have all you need to feed a family on a self catering holiday. No need to bring food with you or order a supermarket shop on line.
Our local butcher has a well stocked counter with a good range of ideas for the week. There is also a local green grocer selling fresh local strawberries and raspberries, wines, fish and cheeses. The East Neuk baker Barnett’s has a shop in Crail selling locally baked bread.
Crail also has two convenience stores, a pharmacy, an art gallery, giftshop and a local chip shop. At the harbour you can buy freshly caught crab and lobster.
Lastly we must not forget Crail Pottery. Well worth a visit for that small memorable gift to take home with you.

Sandcastle Cottage is located within the conservation area. There is a large private garden and patio to the rear which allows our guests to relax in. We are only 2 minutes walk from the beach and childrens playpark at Roome Bay and a short walk to the historic harbour, shops and restaurants.
