Self Catering Holidays

The beginning of the year is a time for planning Self Catering Holidays. Where would you like to go this year? At Sandcastle Cottage, we’ve been busy thinking of ideas to entice you to include the East Neuk of Fife as one of your self catering holidays.

We’ve been collecting links on our Pinterest boards to give you a quick snapshot of things to do, places to visit and places to eat and drink on your holiday in the East Neuk, so please take a look .

Self Catering Holidays – Low Season Breaks

We look forward to welcoming guests to Sandcastle Cottage in the low season. From April 2024  we are offering weekly  breaks starting on a Friday or a Monday.

If you need school holiday dates, they’re different in different parts of the country.  From Sandcastle Cottage you can walk the Fife Coastal Path, visit parks or spend a day in St Andrews.  We’ve collected ideas for restaurants to visit if you want to eat out, or ideas for self-catering to help you plan your trip.  No need to bring food with you to Crail.

Spring Breaks – April and May

In springtime, Kellie Castle opens again – you’ll find details about opening times here. We love the walled garden and grounds (open all year round). There are Open Studios open in East Neuk to add to the array of galleries and artists’ workshops. Check out our walks page where you will find a range of walks from coastal walks on the Fife Coastal Path or short or long country walks helping you to discover some of the East Neuk’s hidden gems.

Summer Breaks – June

Time for the Crail Food Festival, June can also be an opportunity for those who don’t need school holidays to take a summer break.  Find out some ideas for things to do for the Under-5s if you’re looking for inspiration.  June is also popular with families coming for graduation ceremonies at the University of St Andrews.

Why not plan some great days out to other parts of Fife. Check out our blog for some great ideas. If it rains we have some tips and suggestions for making the most of a rainy day.

Self Catering Holidays – Summer Breaks – July and August

We offer weekly or fortnightly breaks in July and August, starting on a Friday (mostly), but a weekly minimum also allows you to book a 10 night break Fri – Fri – Mon or an 11-night break Mon-Mon-Fri. A great time for family holidays.  Take a look at ideas for Beaches in Fife: Elie and Kingsbarns are favourites.  It’s the time for the East Neuk Festival (early July), Crail Festival (last 2 weeks in July) and the Pittenweem Arts Festival (Early August)

Autumn Breaks – September, October

As summer fades and autumn arrives.  A great time for enjoying walks by the shore on the Fife Coastal Path the longest coastal footpath in Scotland, and treating yourself to a break if you don’t need school holiday dates.  A time for inspirational music of all genres at St Andrews Voices. The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship takes place in St Andrews and Kingsbarns. The month of November, culminates with the St Andrew’s Day celebrations.
